Subject: Voluntary IFQ Outreach docs

The South Atlantic Fishermen's Association (SAFA) has designed a Voluntary IFQ for the South Atlantic snapper grouper fishery that they plan to propose at the December Council meeting during the public comment session on Tuesday night. The Voluntary IFQ was designed entirely by South Atlantic snapper grouper fishermen. We have attached the outreach documents used to tell non-SAFA fishermen about the proposal and see if they were interested to this email. We have 36 permit holders at this time who would like to have the option to sign on to a voluntary IFQ. We expect more to sign on as we continue to reach out to permit owners. We have thus far only presented these ideas to fishermen that showed past interest in IFQs.

There were three design ideas proposed to fishermen using an introductory letter and FAQ sheets. One is for a Voluntary IFQ for a handful of mid-shelf species (pages 1-5 in the attached pdf document) in the Carolinas and Georgia. The second is for golden tilefish (pages 6-10). The third is for a handful of deepwater species in Monroe County (pages 11-15. The regional aspects of the proposed programs simply reflect the areas fished and species caught by Board members and other fishermen that designed the Voluntary IFQ. The fishermen would like for fishermen in all states to have a Voluntary IFQ option. On Tuesday of next week, SAFA Board members will ask the Council to consider pursuing an amendment for a Voluntary IFQ. Details are provided in the attached document and more will be provided during the presentation.

Thank you for your hard work and commitment to preserving our fisheries and we look forward to speaking with you all next week.
